Cambodia - Day 3

Posted by: WhiRL   in Colors of Life

This is a view of the bride’s house on a swamp area

I woke up knowing Sothy was going to leave early and gave him a hug as I promised. Haha. Nothing bad as some of you have in mind. Aiyoyoyoyo. Then I continued my deep slumber until 9 am. In any event I think I really am some sort of bad luck charm as there was a blackout again when I woke up. Sigh so I decided to sleep since it was hot and I could do nothing much.

When the electricity came back up, I got straight into doing work. The sermons that I’m preparing seem harder to put into full script than I had first expected. I also had the problem of really not having a clear idea what I should preach. This is because I am so so so nervous. What if that’s not the message I’m supposed to preach? What if I cannot get the message across clearly? I spent most of the time doing this until I got so tired and watched some shows I had.

Before I knew it, it was time to go for an important practice. Tomorrow is the wedding day! I haven’t a clue what Cambodian weddings are like. So I had to be there. Guess what? There is a blackout in the bride’s home! I wonder if I caused it. Ahahhaah. I think I better pray harder.

Another view from the house

Preparation of the house deco by the family members

Rehearsal Time

Another of the rehearsal

Unlike our Chinese weddings, their ceremony is held at the lady’s home. In fact I learnt so many interesting facts about their culture. In the early days, men had to work three years for the bride’s family before he can marry her. What value they put to a lady! Warwick, here they treat them as true pearls!

Preparing the gifts for tomorrow

A fruit I have never seen before

Delicious Fruit Drink named ‘Tokolok’ or something like that, an Ice-blend of many types of fruits

There is so much more to their culture that is so enlightening that makes me more that honoured to be offered to be part of it in a special way. I learnt of my responsibility as the best man in setting up the props for the washing of feet ceremony between the couple. Nice isn’t it. I’m so excited. Tomorrow I have to wake up at 5am.

Lord, bless this ceremony I pray. Amen!
