TX-2000 (which a friend of mine sold me, 4GB RAM, 250 GB HDD) is a dream, not a machine! The tablet and stylus are quite the thing for me, since I am an amateur graphic artist.
I agree that the battery weighs a lot but it's so well designed that you can carry the TX as a notebook (I barely use paper anymore, but for sketches); with software like Photoshop or Sai, TX is unbeatable.
Even the pad (which I and gazillions of laptop users just hate) is pleasant in use and quite responsive in practice (though, cheater as I am, I prefer a wifi mouse).
Regretably, it has only 3 USB ports instead of 4 but, weighing this against the miriad of characteristics TX2000 has), it's just a quite minor detail.
The part that I really dislike, the only blot (apart from Vista, I want to change to WIndows 8) in a brilliant design, is the starting button. It's easy for it to slip from your finger and requires a long run to start the laptop. It would have been better if same were in the frame of the monitor, like the DVD, screen turning and other buttons are.
I like a lot the ventilation system: port is well located to avoid excessive heating (even if the TX is over a table and not with a cooler) and serves as a handy warmer for your fingers in cold nights!

You need windows xp tablet edition to make sure the tablet pc functions are still maximized. I don't use autocad.....But I would supposed it is possible, I don't see why it can't

It is already out the newer model. I just don't know when the stock will come in. But the price is rather steep. Where are you from?

leon I must say, ur review on the Hp Tx 2000 series is nothing short of being awesome! i bet even the manufacturers wouldn't have done it any better.
But the downside from my view is having it function fully on Xp. A lot of its drivers are not compatible, most especially the co- processor, sound, VGA and other basic stuff.
i must give it to this machine, typing on it is off the hook. never liked typing but this keys are just irresistible.
hope u can help me out here.
frm Nigeria

You firstly have to download the drivers from the HP website. It is possible as they have is all there for free for XP. Secondly the normal version for XP will not give you all the tablet functions you need. You need to use the Windows XP tablet Edition.

You are absolutely right they keys are absolutely wonderful to type on. The best I've ever had

Thanks. I did as you suggested but got the message "Fingerprint reader not connected." Do I need to be connecting something?

<strong>Leon said:</strong>

I think you've disabled your fingerprint reader hardware somehow. The settings is probably in the bios. Try looking there. Otherwise I'm not sure. Sorry I'm no pro and I'm not with my notebook. But I will try to experiment with it tomorrow when I get back to Singapore. So if you can wait and be patient with me then wait ok? if not call HP support. If you do solve it, please let me know too ok :)

Very informative review. Wish I'd read it before I dispensed of 999 US on a tx2510 on Aug. 16, 08. Great point about not spending more on functions that you don't need. I have yet to explore the capabilities of the pc - not even the tablet. I guess I don't know where to start. Even the finger print reader has suddenly stopped recognizing my fingerprint in start up. Is there any way to fix that?

Right click on the Digitalpersona Personal icon on the bottom right corner. then redo the fingerprint enrollment. I hope that will solve your problem

M a multimedia user n i run softwares lyk fruityloops dat results in cracking of sound.‚Ä©Pls suggest me dat dis will nt happen with hp tablet?

<strong>Leon said:</strong>

Its the quality of the sound card that determines that. Honestly every sound card that is built-in are terrible for doing high quality recordings. Crackling happen often times when your sample rate is too high. The computer is not powerful to handle that and crackling happens. I think if you want to do audio stuff. Read some audio forums, they will tell you how to know. It is a very very complicated process to find a perfect setup. If you are asking if this notebook has enough processing power? Sure it has. I think 8 track simultaneous recordings are the max

Does AMD TURION hangs the system?

<strong>Leon said:</strong>

I am wondering what is the rationale behind asking that question. Why would a processor hang the system?
