If I Could Change the World….

It was an early Saturday morning as usual, trying to drag myself out of my comfortable bed because as usual, a bright new day has started? But I found myself all worn out and dreary….they that happens because your nervous system did not reset itself (layman terms) while you slept. I had quite a bad night tossing and turning because I was dreaming of someone who had affected my life a lot and just couldn’t get it off my mind. Kind of like a nightmare of some sort.

But I was looking forward to spending the day with a friend I have not met up in a long long time. So got up and saw my beautiful bike waiting for me there…..time to go…..zoom….. before I knew it I was 20km away making my student scream for his life! Muaaahahhahhaaha. Then I had the next batch of students…this time they made me scream for my life. Hahaha. They may be reading this blog for all I know…..hmmm

Oh well, Then I was ready to go for the appointment but the call haven’t came about the time she was to arrive. So I waited…………waited…….waited……..yawn…..this is getting BORING! So I impatiently called her. Hehe. And I hear her saying ‘sorry sorry I was about to get back to you’. She sounded so sweet I couldn’t say anything but ‘it’s ok’ hahhaha.

So I quickly went down to take my lunch only to find that it’s raining! So the announcement goes over the speaker phone…..Cagiva Mito departure to KDU is delayed until further notice….sigh

What has this to do with the title you ask? Everything! We ended up meeting at a public speaking contest in KDU because her friend was there and going to speak.

I sat there mesmerized at myself because I was in a position that felt odd. I hate this sort of things and there I am sitting next to a cute gal staring at teenagers giving speeches and guess what!!!? The topic given to them was….IF I COULD CHANGE THE WORLD…..

‘I would stop racism’ some said

‘I would stop abortion’ another said

‘I would stop traffic jams from happening’

‘I would start with myself’

The list goes on but you know what? I found myself so cynical of their talks. I’ve heard top selling songs about changing the world even seen great advertisements that move you to tears to make a change. American Idol gives back drew tears to my eyes and even movies that tell you our world is being abused. Yet with all this nothing has changed. Now I say this in a sense that it is obvious that its just going to get worse.

So why talk about change? Why did this kids waste their time talking about change? Why aren’t we just making the change instead of talking about it? Because we don’t really care do we?

I’m glad the girl beside me was not just someone who talks about change. She was already in action trying to make a change. Her ambition is to be a school teacher. She believes in change and will invest her life in the next generation. I’m glad to say I’m so proud of her. While we are complaining about how bad our education system is and bla bla bla, she decided to instead to stop talking and DO IT! She is smart, loving, caring, funny, and just so many more wonderful characters and yet instead of choosing a well paid or glamorous job, she chose to teach.

Man! That hit me hard. Let’s stop all the talking. Let’s start doing something. If I could change the world I’ll stop saying IF and change it! What about You?

Realization is the first step for a change to happen. To realise that there’s a need to change, and the need to do something about it and not just talk is next. So yup, as the saying goes, action speaks louder than words holds truth.
Start doing something is not good enough, the something has to be more specific, everyone with their own different somethings. But make sure the something is really something. Short term goals and long term goals.
Start with today and with yourself.
No matter how small the change is, as long as it’s for the better, it’s still considered. =)

Some of my dear readers are asking if I have a crush. I think I better be clear here that I don’t.

I think most people are too ashamed to praise in our culture which is bad. So I decided to praise her. Who knows why this happened. It was just spontaneous. Haha

Yeah Siew Lee its not just starting but really doing. We can change the world in small ways. But you never know how big the impact will be. History makers changed the world like that.

Hee… that’s really sweet.

I think given the ability to change anything and everything in the world, anyone would be overwhelmed. I wouldn’t know where to begin.

But you’re right, and I’m glad too that we can make the little differences around us that we hope can stir up ripples of change.

I don’t want the ability to change anything and everything in the world. I don’t think I can handle the responsibility. What we have is what we can handle, and that is good enough.

But still shouldn’t we strive a bit harder, Donny? Little by little I bet you’re right that we can make a difference
