My Greatest Fear

Posted by: WhiRL   in Colors of Life

My favorite superhero of all time in the comic sense is Daredevil. The tag line, ‘the man with no fear’. OH My hero…..

MIke Leo will say I fear no one when it comes to speaking my mind. Others will testify to my stupid bold acts of bravery but one thing I can never overcome. Make me eat ‘Balut’ or even spiders or crickets I could survive….though I haven’t done that. I have eaten stuff like monitor lizards, squirrels, snakes, porcupine and more and it is no issue to me.

But it was a cold cold December night somewhere about 10 or more years ago. There I (the victim) lay under the cover of my sleeping bag. Beside me was a friend named Adino (the accused) and we were resting awaiting the next day of camp to approach when suddenly....

I am faced with my greatest fear that night. I was bitten by the most atrocious creature of them all. I cried to Adino for help but he brushed my pleas for help aside . There I lay unable to sleep that night, traumatised by that event that has deeply affected me until this very moment.

I write this because I was faced with this vile creature once more last night as I attempted to do a great deed….wash my clothes. It flew in a violent fashion and I ducked as I sensed it’s presence (a super power ever since it bit me). There I came face to face with it and guess what? I ran like a…..I don’t know how to describe…..all I can say is my brother and friends laugh at me when I run like that.

I grabbed my ultimate weapon but like a wuss I stood in a distance and sprayed in every direction possible. I approched its lair closer slowly one step at a time…..SUDDENLY THERE IS WAS RIGHT ABOVE ME! SPRAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! I ran off with all my might. I think I hit it with my amazing most poisonous weapon but she is nowhere to be found. It is said only the females fly. They have this ability to hide from the naked eye. I have no idea if my deadly nemesis has been defeated or will come to haunt me in my sleep.

Now my clothes lie in the washing machine and it has been more than an hour since I have been trying to work up the guts to go to the back of my house. Oh don’t you know yet what my greatest fear is? I fear nothing else in the world honestly. But ever since that fateful night, I have now been haunted by the fear of this disgusting creature. I blame you Adino…..you did not save me sob sob….

I am so ashamed to admit that my greatest fear is a little cockroach. When will I ever be ‘The Man without Fear’

I’ve never heard of cockroaches bite too (or do they?) Hmm.. guess what happened today? Cockroach on the table where we had our lunch in Italian food restaurant. My boss and my the other guy colleague were trying their best to it away from the table with glass, blew it away… Haha… Never seen such a way to In the end this brave lady grabbed a tissue and… there this cockroach ended it’s life. I’m not afraid of cockroach anyways except those FLY ones or anything flies, or bees? I’ll run with all my life. But, I kill them too. Now I know why some fly and some don’t too.

Cockroaches do bite…but by the male or female or both? My mom got bitten too when she was sleeping, that’s how i know for sure that they do bite!

My brother too had a very traumatising experience while sleeping when a cockroach crawl into his ear and couldn’t reverse out! In its attempt to get out, it caused lots of pain to my brother and he was like jumping and hitting his ear and screaming in pain. We tried helping by pouring in water, vinegar and i can’t remember what else, in the end i think we drowned the cockroach and half its body finally ‘floated’ out. The other half (imagine the condition after the overnight soaking)….ooops sorry to those who happened to be eating and reading…..was flushed out by a general practitioner the next day! Yucks!!!

Most of us would grab something or anything to start whacking if we encounter the non-flying ones but i will dodge or run if its the flying ones ….. hahaha. As long as they don’t touch me, i am fine and will attack.

So Man Without Fear wannabe, you have to overcome that ‘fear’ la.

Ho!! Now I recalled something happened about 20 years back. I was bitten by a cockroach when I was brushing my teeth. I jumped and ran to my daddy. But I don’t remember anything after that anymore. Considered I’ve overcame it? Haha… No wonder I fear nothing. The bees? Supposingly it won’t cause me to scream and run for my life. :)

BRAVO!! You’re such a great script writer my friend… From such a small case, you have been writing it happen as if like fighting from earth to heaven and way back to hell.. Haha.. But, in deed you have illustrated it greatly. No worry on that.. sooner or later you will learn to fight your fear as in i’m fighting mine with my beloved kitten & puppy.. :D
