Album of the week – Shades of Grace
I was unable to procure a new album here in Singapore when I wrote this. So at the moment, maybe a little retro-album ok?
I wanted to introduce to you all one of the most lyrically meaningful album I have come across. Butterfly Kisses (Shades of Grace) – Bob Carlisle. His life testimony and how God has led him is pretty spectacular. He formally was from the band ‘Allies’ that was typically not where you would think a singer like him came from. It was heavy rock during the era.
God had led him to the point where he wrote this song ‘Butterfly Kisses’ which was inspired by his daughter Brooke. This album is now 14-15 years old and I still hear it many times. Someone believed in him and produced his album, not knowing that it would lead to him having won a Grammy Award in 1997 for the Best Country Song and a Dove Award. Since then he has been nominated for 8 Dove awards and has sold more than 3 million albums!
The song Butterfly Kisses got me so moved from the very first time I heard it. It was played on radio in Malaysia and I happen to stumble upon it and I was dumbfounded. Apparently I was not the only one. Testimonies of fathers calling in to the radio stations worldwide sobbing, many stopping by the roadside to cry and so much more began to pour out as this song made its debut. Some of you probably already know about this song and have probably loved it as well. What I think you all didn’t get to hear though is the other songs in this album that really is wonderful as well.
For those of you wondering what Butterfly Kisses are, here it is:
a BUTTERFLY KISS is when the eyelashes of one are fluttered against the cheek or eyelashes of another.
The song ‘Living Waters’ probably brought me to tears more than any other song in my life. Hear it loud, the sheer atmosphere and presence of the music stirs your soul to worship unto God.
‘On My Knees’, what can I say about this song? I think the lyrics is probably perfect.
‘ Man of His Word’ is a song that carried out a story like Butterfly Kisses but then directs the whole story to God in the end. I pray God will inspire me to write a song like this one day.
I could go on and on. But let me affirm this point also, this album is not just great lyrically but musically excellent as well. I love the melodies. They are very very good. The key changes and song composing element is superb.
Let me just say that this album is an Adult Contemporary/Country (not so) album that is powerful. If you want to hear great powerhouse vocals, arrangements for ballads, and find songs that really move the soul. This is definately the album to get. It is a MUST get in my opinion. He has many other albums but I particularly recommend this one because it has most of his best songs. He has moved on to write many other powerful songs and I thank God for him. An inspiration for writing songs to the Father.

Yeah Most people didn’t. But I’m curious why people don’t find out. Once I don’t know something I would usually be unable to sleep until I get the correct answer
