In my previous post you will realise that I had overspent by a mile. So upon arriving home, I just had to put things to work! What is the point of having all the stuff but not using them? So up goes the 3.5G modem. Looking at the bottom you see again the famous phrase on every product ‘made in china’ (I’m exaggerating).

So in goes the sim card and then all I did was plug and play. Woooohooo. I remember those days when they promised things would be like that. It hasn’t really worked but I must say maxis’ promise for plug and play it is true!

Worked like a charm. But I must say the load up time is a bit disappointing. Slow if I may say. I think very slow. Hahaha. So the next challenge is to hook it up with the DLINK wireless DIR-300 router. Funny thing is that this had a big sticker that says please install cd first. I was like WHY? I’ve used so many routers and you don’t need no cd. So I ignored the instructions. Bad boy!

Now for your information, you cannot just hook it up this time and say ‘plug and play’. The modem that give acts like an access point giving out IP addresses. The router does the same so I needed to adjust the settings in the router and it was relevantly easy because I’ve done it before. For your information. You can just google ‘how to install my maxis broadband modem with a router’ and you can find how to do it. Adino refers to google as ‘Si Fu’. I also learnt all my computer stuff from the World Wide Web.

Now everything is set. I started my internet and it worked like a charm! For like 30 secs….then the NIGHTMARE begins. My wireless connection drops from 54Mbps to 1Mbps within minutes. Now that is common if you are like getting further away from the router. But I was like 10 cm away from the router letting all its radio waves blast my brains out! Some insist I will get cancer soon. With all the wireless things I have. We’ll see in 50 years time hahaha

Now I try to find a solution and almost stayed up the whole night wondering why this has happened to me. I felt its like the end of the world. I consulted Google Si fu and he offered nothing that worked. So after all the torture Si Fu put me through I just collapsed into my comfortable queen sized bed.

Next morning its was Si Fu 2 ‘Adino’. But again this problem kept haunting me! I was feeling so blur with my head spinning and still life has to go on. Last resort….Dell…..and guess what? They confirmed my worse nightmare! I have to reformat! Nooooooooooooo!!!! Mommmyyy help me!

Mom: Reformat? You think I know how to? You must be mad. I think your brain needs reformatting too.

I start to feel something hitting me in the head. Leon you can do it! Wake up! Its a dream! But the reality is I still can’t solve the matter until now. It works fine with my EEEPC but not with my Dell. If anyone has a solution please tell me.

I have fixed my notebook the perfect way I like it. I don’t want to reformat. So far I have made it stay at 54Mbps for 24 hours max. Then periodically it acts crazy again. It is driving me nuts!! Seriously. My EEPC which is at least 4 times slower is 10 times faster on the Internet.

So this nightmare still haunts me until today. When will it end? Accordingly until I face my nightmare of reformatting…this will not end. How to chose?
